Star Trek novels for June 2008: Dawn of the Eagles & These Haunted Seas

Dawn of the Eagles, the last installment of the Star Trek: Terok Nor trilogy, is to be released this June 2008 by Pocket Books. This novel is written by S.D. Perry and Britta Dennison and is the direct continuation of Night of the Wolves.

From Pocket Books solicitation:

As violence all across Bajor continues to escalate, Cardassian forces tighten their grip on the captive planet, driving back the resistance at every turn; but on Terok Nor and elsewhere, the winds of change are stirring -- the beginnings of a hurricane that will alter the landscape of the Occupation. And while secret dealings, shifting alliances, and personal demons buoy the wings of revolution, a mysterious shape-shifting life form begins a journey that will decide the fate of worlds.
This book was reviewed by Jeff Ayers of TrekWeb. He said:
Everyone knows this book will end with the arrival of the Federation and the Emissary taking over Terok Nor. The fun is seeing all of the pieces fall into place in entertaining and surprising ways.

These Haunted Seas is also to be released this month. It is a paper back omnibus reprinting two Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novels set after the final episode of the TV series. These novels are collectively known as Deep Space Nine Relaunch. Reprinted on this volume are the first two novels of the Mission Gamma mini-series: Twilight and This Gray Spirit written by David R. George III and Heather Jarman.

Star Trek moms

In commemoration of Mother's Day, TrekWeb.com compiled a list of the Top 10 Star Trek Moms. About the process of selecting the greatest mom:

Each character was selected because she represents an archetypal quality we appreciate in the very best of moms.
Here is what they can say about the #4 entry, Kathryn Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager
Not all mothers are biological mothers. Janeway always showed the motherly trait of compassion for her crew, especially with Tom, Harry and most especially, Seven.
So, who is your favorite Star Trek mom?

Coolest sci-fi vehicles

USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D)Image via WikipediaAlec Rosekrans compiled a list of the 20 coolest vehicles from the worlds of science fiction. On the list are Serenity of Firefly, the Enterpise and the Borg Cube of Star Trek, and the Death Star of Star Wars. I agree on the his selections but I kinda disagree on the order. Come on, a Kligon Bird of Prey is way cooler than the Millenium Falcon!

Trek novel for May 2008: Night of the Wolves

Night of the Wolves, written by S.D. Perry and Britta Dennison, is the Star Trek novel to be released this May 2008 by Pocket Books. This novel is the second book of the trilogy Star Trek: Terok Nor set before the events of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine during the Cardiassian occupation of Bajor.

From Pocket Books solicitations

Eighteen years into the Occupation, a new star rises in Bajor's sky. It is the seat of power in this system, a place of slave labor and harsh summary judgments, the symbol of Cardassian might and the futility of resisting it. But even as the gray metal crown of Terok Nor ascends to its zenith, ragtag pockets of Bajoran rebels-including a fierce young fighter named Kira Nerys- have begun to strike back at their world's oppressors, and they intend to show the Cardassians that the night belongs to them.

Trek Web also posted an advance review by Voyages of Imagination author Jeff Ayers and an excerpt from the novel. Wait for the release of this novel on local bookstores this month.
